How to choose an alabaster fixture

Size it to the room, not the fixture. Over a dining table, a chandelier or pendant should be roughly half to two thirds the width of the table, hung 30 to 36 inches above the tabletop. In an entryway or stairwell, allow at least 7 feet of clearance beneath the lowest point. For a kitchen island, space pendants about 24 to 30 inches apart.

Check the bulb type before you buy. Alabaster fixtures in this collection use different light sources — some take G9 or E26 bulbs, others have an integrated LED module that is not user-replaceable. The bulb base, wattage and whether bulbs are included are listed on each product page.

Natural or faux. Most pieces here use quarried alabaster. A few are described as faux alabaster: a resin or glass shade made to imitate the stone's translucency, usually lighter and less expensive. Each product page states which it is.

Keep it dry. Alabaster is a soft stone that marks with moisture and acidic cleaners. Dust it with a dry, soft cloth and avoid sprays. It is an indoor material, so alabaster fixtures are not suitable for bathrooms with direct water contact or for outdoor use.
