Glass pendant lights from Malane Lighting — hand-blown, fluted, seeded, and stained glass fixtures for kitchen islands, dining tables, entryways, and bedrooms. Every piece is chosen for the quality of the glass itself: the weight of it, the way it holds color, and how it softens a bulb rather than simply covering it.
Shop by Glass Type
-
Clear glass pendant lights — the most versatile choice; shows the bulb and disappears into the room
-
Milk and opal glass — diffuses light evenly with no glare, ideal over a kitchen island or a reading spot. Our vintage milk glass pendant light is the classic example, in brass, black or green.
-
Ribbed, fluted and pleated glass — texture that breaks light into vertical lines
-
Seeded and crackle glass — tiny bubbles and fractures that catch the light, warm and traditional
-
Stained and colored glass — Tiffany-style and vintage-inspired color for a room that needs a focal point
-
Globe, ball and dome shades — the classic round silhouette, from single orbs to bubble clusters
-
Hand-blown and Murano glass — individually made, so no two shades are identical
-
Brass and glass — warm metal hardware paired with clear or smoked shades
Prefer a softer, non-glass diffuser? Our handmade rice paper lamp gives the same glare-free quality as opal glass in five sizes, and suits Japandi and minimalist rooms.
How to Size a Glass Pendant Light
These are the measurements our design team uses most often:
-
Over a kitchen island: hang pendants 30–36 in above the countertop. Use two pendants for islands up to 6 ft and three for 7–9 ft, spaced roughly 24–30 in apart, with at least 6 in from each end of the island.
-
Over a dining table: 28–34 in above the tabletop. A single pendant should be about one-third to one-half the table's width.
-
In an entryway or hallway: keep at least 7 ft of clearance from the floor.
-
Shade diameter: for a single pendant, 8–12 in suits a small space; 14–20 in reads as a statement fixture.
Every product page lists its dimensions in inches and centimeters. If you are between sizes, send us your ceiling height and island or table measurements and we will tell you which one to order.

Glass Pendant Lights — Common Questions
How high should a glass pendant light hang over a kitchen island?
30–36 inches from the countertop to the bottom of the shade. Go closer to 30 in for task lighting over a prep area, and closer to 36 in if the pendant is large or the ceiling is above 9 ft.
How many pendants do I need over an island?
Two for islands up to about 6 ft, three for 7–9 ft. Space them evenly, 24–30 in apart, keeping at least 6 in in from each end.
Which glass is best over a kitchen island?
Milk or opal glass if you want even, glare-free light on the counter. Clear or seeded glass if you want the fixture to feel lighter and show the bulb — pair it with a decorative Edison or frosted bulb.
What bulbs do glass pendant lights take?
It varies by design — E26, E12, and G9 bases are the most common, and some fixtures use integrated LED. The bulb base and whether a bulb is included are listed on each product page.
Can the cord or rod be shortened?
Yes. Most pendants ship with an adjustable cord or stem that can be shortened at installation, and we can supply a longer drop for high or vaulted ceilings on request.
Are these fixtures dimmable?
Most are, when paired with a compatible bulb and dimmer switch. Check the specifications on the product page, or ask us before ordering.
