Ambra Filante Chandelier

Ambra Filante — amber drawn in threads through clear glass. Each plank is a slab of frosted clear glass with fine ribbons of molten amber trailed across and into it while both were still hot. The threads loop, double back, and pool at the lower edge where the amber ran and set. No two planks carry the same pattern, because the trail was laid by hand and gravity finished it.

Hung in four tiers, the effect is a curtain of ice with warm veins running through it. Unlit the fixture reads pale and frosty with amber tracery. Lit, the clear glass glows white while the amber threads light up like filaments inside it — the warmth comes from the lines, not from the body.

Why this one is different

• Hand-trailed amber. The threads are laid onto hot glass by hand, not printed, painted, or cast from a mould. That is why the pattern changes on every plank and why no two chandeliers are alike.
• Two temperatures in one fixture. Cool frosted body, warm amber lines. It reads as a clear chandelier that happens to give warm light — useful in a room where a fully amber fixture would be too much.
• Flat planks, not drops. Broad rectangular slabs rather than teardrops or petals, which gives the tiers a squared, architectural profile closer to 1970s Italian work than to traditional crystal.
• A 39.4-inch wire. Over three feet of suspension as standard — more than triple the chain supplied with most fixtures in this range, so it hangs properly over a table without a custom order.

Note that the largest size is not simply the tallest. At 35.4 inches across and only 23.6 deep it carries more glass around a wider circumference while hanging no lower than the smallest version — which is why it is the most expensive of the three despite being shorter than the 31.5".

Choosing a size

Over a dining table, the 31.5" suits tables of roughly 60 to 78 inches and the 35.4" suits 78 inches and up, with the lowest glass 30 to 34 inches above the tabletop. The 23.6" works over a round table, in an entry, or in a bedroom.

Height is the deciding factor between the two larger sizes. The 31.5" is as deep as it is wide and wants a tall room; the 35.4" spreads wider but hangs a full 8 inches shorter, which makes it the better choice on a standard eight-foot ceiling. The supplied wire is 39.4 inches and can be extended on request — tell us your ceiling height and we will set it correctly.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes and prices are available?

Three. Ø 23.6" x H 23.6"; Ø 31.5" x H 31.5"; and Ø 35.4" x H 23.6".

Why is the 35.4-inch version more expensive than the taller 31.5-inch one?

Because width costs more than height here. The 35.4" carries more glass planks around a wider circumference, even though it hangs 8 inches shorter. It is the largest fixture of the three by volume of glass, and the best choice where ceiling height is limited but floor area is not.

Are the amber threads painted on?

No. They are ribbons of molten amber glass trailed onto the clear planks by hand while both were hot, then allowed to run and set. The colour is inside the glass and cannot fade, chip, or wear off.

Will my chandelier look exactly like the photographs?

Not exactly, and that is the point. Each plank is trailed by hand, so the loops, the density of the threads, and where the amber pooled differ on every piece. Yours will be recognisably the same design and individually different in detail.

What bulbs does it take?

E14 small screw base. E14 is smaller than the E26 and E27 bases common in North America; in the United States, E12 candelabra bulbs are the closest widely stocked equivalent, and we can confirm fit for your installation. Choose 2700K warm white — the amber threads need warm light to glow.

How long is the suspension?

100 cm / 39.4 inches of wire as standard, which is unusually generous — most fixtures of this kind ship with a 12-inch chain. It suits a dining table on a standard ceiling without modification, and can be extended on request for stairwells and double-height rooms.

Is it dimmable?

It runs on a common wall switch and has no built-in dimming, so it depends on the bulbs. Dimmable LED or filament bulbs on a compatible wall dimmer will dim, and dimming makes the amber threads far more pronounced against the frosted glass.

What does it need to hang from?

A ceiling box rated for a chandelier of the relevant size, fixed to structural framing or a proper brace. These are dense glass fixtures, and the two larger sizes in particular are heavy — have an electrician confirm the mounting before installation.

How do I clean it?

Dust each plank with a soft dry cloth, supporting it as you work — the planks hang on hooks and will swing. Do not spray cleaner onto the fixture; dampen the cloth instead if more than dusting is needed.

Will it work outside the United States?

Yes. It accepts AC 110-240 V and carries certification compatible with North America, Europe, and Saudi Arabia, so it runs on either a 120 V or a 220-240 V supply.

Can it be used in a bathroom or outdoors?

No. It is an indoor fixture.
